Imperial and Metric Soffit and Fascia Examples
Imperial example: 160 ft of eave with a 2 ft soffit depth has 320 sq ft of base soffit area. With 10% waste, plan for 352 sq ft. If the selected package provides 12 sq ft of effective coverage, divide 352 by 12 and round up to 30 packages. If fascia follows the same 160 ft run, 10% waste produces 176 linear ft. Using 12 ft pieces requires 15 pieces. At hypothetical entered prices of $18 per soffit package and $24 per fascia piece, estimated material cost is $900. Metric example: 50 m of eave at 0.6 m deep equals 30 m². Ten percent waste produces 33 m²; at 1.1 m² per unit, that is 30 units. A 50 m fascia run with 10% waste requires 55 m, or 16 pieces at 3.6 m each. Product coverage, layout and prices are examples only.

- Soffit and fascia quantities round up independently to whole purchasing units or pieces.
- Using soffit run for fascia assumes both materials cover the same eave segments; otherwise enter a separate fascia measurement.
- Fascia stock length represents usable purchasable length before field cuts, laps, joints or manufacturer-required allowances.
- Optional price uses the same unit basis as coverage or stock length and excludes tax, delivery, labor and accessories.
- Openings, corners, returns and obstructions are represented only by the selected waste allowance, not by a detailed layout.

How do I measure soffit depth?
Measure horizontally from the wall-side receiving edge to the fascia-side receiving edge. If depth changes around the building, calculate the different sections separately for better accuracy.
What does effective coverage per soffit unit mean?
It is the usable installed square coverage supplied by one panel, carton or package after the product profile and required laps are considered. It may differ from gross material dimensions.
How much waste should I add for soffit?
A simple verified layout may use a modest allowance, while corners, returns, openings and short sections can increase waste. Use a panel layout and supplier guidance whenever possible.
How is fascia calculated?
The calculator adds the selected waste percentage to total fascia run, divides by the stock length of one board or trim piece and rounds up.
Should fascia length always match soffit run?
Not necessarily. It may match on a complete eave replacement, but gables, omitted areas, repairs and different scopes can change the total. Enter a separate fascia run when needed.
Does this calculator include J-channel or F-channel?
No. Receiving channels, trim, corners, fasteners, sealants and other accessories depend on the product system and layout and need a separate takeoff.
Does this calculator tell me how much soffit ventilation I need?
